We’re recruiting for a Senior DevOps Engineer here at Justice Digital, to be part of our warm and collaborative Digital Infrastructure and Security Operations (DISO), part of our technical services team.
This role aligns against Senior DevOps Engineer from the Government Digital and Data Framework
DISO is part of Technology Services in Justice Digital, a modern and diverse workplace that promotes a healthy work-life balance and flexible working options.
The DISO service areas are:
● WAN – ownership of our Wide Area Network and Gateway services both internally & externally provided.
● LAN – ownership of our wired & WiFi Local Area Network services both internally & externally provided, and our Physical Infrastructure field services.
● Voice – ownership of our digital, analogue and IPT Voice & Unified Comms services.
● Video – ownership of our Video conferencing services, procedural video services including pre-recorded evidence.
● Hybrid Cloud – ownership of our Azure hosting offer, on-premise hosting, testing and monitoring and integration services
● Infrastructure Automation Team – ownership of our AWS infrastructure and automation offering.

As a Senior DevOps Engineer at MoJ, you will work with colleagues across Technology Services and build strong relationships with Service Owners, Information Security, Customer Service Operational Teams, Delivery Managers, Product Managers and other key stakeholders. You will share knowledge of tools and techniques with the wider team and community. You will be comfortable working across multi-disciplinary teams and flexible enough to adjust, at short notice, to immediate demand.
The role will provide a dedicated 3LS support function dealing with service requests, tickets and major incidents. Occasionally you will participate in support during Out of Hours (OoH), for which you’ll be paid an allowance and further payment if dealing with incidents.

Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Management
● You ensure the correct implementation of standards and procedures, identify capacity issues, stipulate the required changes, and instigate these. You know how to initiate remedial action.
● You know about information security and can design solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered as mitigation against security threats as a core part of the solutions and services.
● You can analyse current processes, identify and implement opportunities to optimise processes, and lead and develop a team of experts to deliver service improvements. You can help to evaluate and establish requirements for the implementation of changes by setting policy and standards
● You know how to use a modern standards approach and guide others to use it as well.
● You have designed, implemented and supported infrastructure services to a user base over 10,000 spread across many sites.
Technical Skills
● You collaborate with others to review specifications and use these agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programs or scripts of medium-to-high complexity, using the proper standards and tools.
● You can design systems characterised by medium levels of risk, impact, and business or technical complexity. You know how to select appropriate design standards, methods and tools and ensure they are applied effectively. You can review the systems designs of others to ensure the selection of the right technology, efficient use of resources and the integration of multiple systems and technology.
● You understand the difference between user needs and the desires of the user. You can prioritise and define approaches to understand the user story, guiding others in doing so. You can offer recommendations on the best tools and methods to be used.
● You will have knowledge/experience with DHCP/DNS Services and Network Access Control.

Essential
● Proven experience working in a DevOps environment.
● Proven experience providing technical support and assistance to junior staff and users.
● You can apply a modern standards approach competently and guide others.
● You have been involved in systems designs to ensure the selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and the integration of multiple systems and technology.
● You can share evidence of automating the deployment of whole systems, or systems components, across multiple environments using code.
● You will have good working knowledge of one or more of the following:
- Ruby, Python, PowerShell and C#
- Kubernetes, Docker, Pester, Azure DevOps
- AWS or Azure for infrastructure
- Terraform for infrastructure provisioning
- Github and Github actions for code management
- Grafana, Prometheus or SolarWinds
Willingness to be assessed against the requirements for SC clearance

Your application will be reviewed against the Person Specification above by a diverse panel.
Successful candidates who meet the required standard will then be invited to a 1-hour panel interview held via video conference. This will include a short, in time exercise, using Sudo Code at the start, details of which will be released once invited to interview.
Should we receive a high volume of applications, a pre-sift based on the technical requirements of the role, specifically AWS, will be conducted prior to the sift.
